When and why did you become a voice actress?
I had been doing voice work here and there for the past like 4 years, but didn't really start pursuing it fully as a career choice till after I graduated post-secondary about a year and a half ago.
That being said I still didn't really consider myself to be a "Real Voice Actor" until I signed with my voice agent back in April. Since then I have lent my voice to several cartoon, anime and video game projects, working both local union and Online Non-union. The reason why I chose to pursue voice work as my career, was because I adore cartoons!
Basically I always knew I wanted to be a part of the animation industry in some way; originally I thought I was going to be an animator until I learned that I am actually really bad at drawing. However as I got older I found out what a voice actor was/did, and eventually discovered that I had a knack for voice work, and acting in general. In the end it all just felt right, like the perfect fit, ya know, and so far it has been working out very well for me.
What are some of your credentials?
- I have a diploma in Radio Broadcasting from BCIT, graduating with distinction, and earning several awards and scholarships.
- I have 2+ years of Improv Training.
- 1+ years of coaching with a professional Singing coach.
- I have taken various voice and acting classes over the last couple years, training under Fiona Hogan, Alan Marriott, Michael Daingerfield, etc.
- And 9 month of working experience as a professional Voice Actress in the Vancouver industry
What has been your most memorable experience being a voice actress?
I wish I could go into detail about this one but unfortunately I am still under NDA, so pardon my extreme vagueness. Back in May 2015 I was cast as an incidental guest role on a super big, popular cartoon series. Now I myself am a pretty big fan of this show, so getting cast on it was like a dream come true; I was almost in tears when my agent gave me the news.
I mean this was my first professional Union voice job, the first thing I booked through my agent, and it was on THIS show. Though getting cast wasn't the memorable part, the memorable part was actually doing the recording session. Oh I will never forget it! It was an pre-lay session, we were doing it ensemble cast (The whole cast records at the same time), and I got to record along side several voice actresses I really admire. They were so kind and welcoming to me, and we all laughed so much, it was perfect! The most perfect first professional record I could have ever asked for.
What would be your dream career?
Full-time Voice actress of course! Right now I am only able to do voice work part-time, since my professional career is still quite new, and it will to take me some time to fully establish myself in the industry. But one day I hope to do this full time, and be able to live off my voice work.
Who/what are your biggest influences?
I don't really think there is one single person or thing that I can call my biggest influence. I have been so lucky in my career and have had the opportunity to train under and learn from many wonderful people, all of whom played a pivotal role in helping shape the person I am today. And I'm still young with lots of growing and learning to do, so I am sure there will be many more people who will influence me greatly in the future. So for right now I will have to say, it's impossible for me to single out just one.
What is your most unusual talent?
I really don't know if it counts as a talent, but I am really good at performing menial tasks while my hands are full. So like opening doors while holding large food trays, or grabbing something out of my purse while holding several gift boxes, etc.
If you could be an animal, what would you be and why?
I have actually thought about this question quite indepthly on my own time, and I have always felt that if I - and my family - were animals we would be a family of dogs. There are specific reasons for why, all that relate to personality traits of myself and my family, but long story short, I would be a mini Pomeranian.
What are some of your favorite video games/movies?
My favourite video games would be:
My favourite Movies are:
Mad Max: Fury Road
Why are you a part of North to Hollow Grove?
Well, when I first saw the audition thread for the game on VAA I instantly knew I wanted to be apart of it! The gorgeous art style, the story focused game play, the intriguing characters, and the fact that the game is influenced by TIM BURTON, how could I not want to be apart of North to Hollow Grove. I just remember going through the audition thread, and thinking "Now this is a project I can get behind! This is something I need to be apart of".
So I went through the audition thread, looked at the characters that were being cast, found Katerina and just upon looking at her I immediately knew exactly how I wanted her to sound. So I recorded my MP3 audition, sent it in, crossed my fingers and within, I think 2 hours of sending it, I had gotten an email back saying I had been cast, and asking if it was possible for me to record some dialogue for the demo that was launching in 2 days.
I hate wearing Pants, and as such don't own any (Besides sleep pant).
I instead prefer to wear tights/leggings underneath skirts/shorts/dresses.
Any Final comments
To Nate, and everyone at Glitch Studios, thank you so much for everything so far! I cannot wait to work more on the game, and to be apart of North to Hollow Grove's Journey from demo to full game!
Hope you all have a very Happy Holiday season and here's to an bright and exciting 2016.
All the best,
